The Comfort Signal

In business, when you reach a comfortable state, it means you’ve done the right things and have now achieved to be at a place you aspired to be. Congratulations!


In a comfort state, there is no more tension. You can breath and enjoy what you’ve achieved. But... the lack of tension is also a curse in disguise. Tension is created when there is a gap between where you are and where you want to be. The larger the gap, the bigger the tension, and the more creative you have to be. (after all if you do the same thing as everyone else, you’ll also get the same results as everyone else… And most businesses fail).


The lack of tension provides a disincentive to be creative and to take smart risks. It is a dangerous state since you now focus on preserving what you have, while everybody else is trying to reach some new grounds.


So take “Comfort” as a signal.


It is precisely when you’re comfortable that you should double down on your risk taking and innovation projects. Why? Because you can afford to be wrong and to fail.


Reaching comfort should become your incentive to be bolder and do things that challenge the status quo.
